FIBROMYALGIA

Fibromyalgia is a long-term illness with symptoms varying from person to person but generally characterised by extreme tiredness and chronic widespread pain. Although the exact cause is unknown, in many cases the condition appears to be triggered by a physically or emotionally stressful event such as:​

  • an injury or infection

  • giving birth

  • surgery

  • the breakdown of a relationship

  • the death of a loved one

Fibromyalgia usually manifests itself between the ages of 30 to 50, however children and the elderly can also be affected. Women are 7 times more likely to develop this condition than men. It's not clear exactly how many people are affected mainly because it can be a difficult condition to diagnose however research suggests it is a common condition.

Symptoms of fibromyalgia

As well as widespread pain and extreme fatigue, common symptoms include:

  • increased sensitivity to pain

  • muscle stiffness

  • difficulty sleeping

  • problems with mental processes, memory and concentration

  • IBS

  • Anxiety 

  • Headaches  

As fibromyalgia sufferers are usually very sensitive to touch, initially treatments will start with a very gentle touch, Guided by you the touch will slowly increase. The duration of the treatment is 75 mins.
